Low light environments create unique challenges that demand more than simply owning a flashlight. This two day course is designed to give students a comprehensive understanding of how to effectively integrate both handheld and weapon mounted lights into a performance based shooting framework that prioritizes speed, accuracy, sound decision making, and risk mitigation.

Day one focuses on pistol applications, covering proper light selection, setup, and deployment with both handheld and weapon mounted lights. Students will work on strong hand only shooting, handheld light techniques, WML techniques, handheld-to-WML transitions, multiple target engagements, decision making drills, using light as a control tool, and more.

Day two shifts to the patrol rifle. Students will learn proper rifle connection/mount, light & switch selection, activation methods, handheld techniques while running a rifle, reloads in low light, rifle-to-pistol transitions, shooting around barricades, and controlling subjects with light. A dedicated block of instruction will demonstrate the advantages and capabilities of LPVOs and magnified optics in low light environments, highlighting the importance of positive target identification (PID) at extended distances.

Throughout the course, students will participate in numerous light demonstrations featuring leading industry brands, allowing firsthand comparison of equipment capabilities and limitations in realistic conditions.

By the end of the course, students will have the knowledge and confidence to select appropriate lighting equipment, understand its limitations, and apply the proper lighting techniques for a variety of environments and situations to mitigate risk, reduce liability, and improve operational performance.

Required equipment:
•    Duty pistol with WML // Patrol rifle with optic, sling and WML
•    Duty belt with magazine pouches
•    At least three magazines for both pistol and rifle (more the better)
•    Handheld flashlight (If you have multiple, please bring them)
•    Spare batteries for WML and handheld lights
•    500 rounds of practice ammo for both platforms
•    Eye and ear protection
•    Note taking material (if desired)

•    Body armor (must be worn while on the range per range rules)
